The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, says Africa\u2019s green growth recovery is an opportunity to build greater resilience and adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.
Mohammed spoke virtually at a Knowledge Event on \u201cClimate Change and Green Growth\u201d as parts of the 2021 Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Thursday.
The UN deputy secretary-general said COVID-19 pandemic had affected the socioeconomic development globally, adding that recovery from it must be all-inclusive.
She said: \u201cWe need an inclusive recovery. It must create new and decent jobs and real opportunities for all, leaving no-one behind.T\u201cThe recovery is an opportunity to build greater resilience and adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.
\u201cA green resilience and inclusive recovery will entail a deep transformation of African economies and significant investment in key sectors such as energy, food security and nature-based solutions.\u201d
Mohammed also said that African countries could leverage the recovery to invest in climate infrastructure and cities, nature-based solutions, land restoration, and in sustainable agriculture.
